Civil Services Examination notification 2012

Feb 5, 2012: Union Public Service Commission has notified the Civil Services Examination, 2012.

The Preliminary Examination of the Civil Services Examination 2012, will be held on 20th May, 2012 (Sunday) at Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Aligarh, Allahabad, Aurangabad, Bangalore, Bareilly, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cuttack, Dehradun, Delhi, Dharwad, Dispur, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Jodhpur, Jorhat, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji (Goa), Patna, Puducherry, Port Blair, Raipur, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Tirupati, Udaipur and Vishakhapatnam.

Plan of Examination: The Civil Services Examination will he held in two successive stages. The first stage, the Civil Services Preliminary Examination which will be of the Objective type, will be for the selection of candidates for the Main Examination. The second stage, the Civil Services Main Examination (Written and Interview) will be for the selection of candidates for the various Services and posts.

Preliminary: Preliminary Examination will have two compulsory papers of 200 marks each with each paper being of two hours duration. Blind candidates will be allowed an extra time of twenty minutes at each paper. Both the question papers will have objective type, multiple choice questions. The question papers will be set in Hindi and English. However, questions relating to English Language Comprehension skills of Class X level will be tested through passages from English Language only without providing Hindi translation thereof in the question paper.

It is mandatory for the candidate to appear in both the Papers of Civil Services (Prelim) Examination for the purpose of evaluation. Therefore a candidate will be disqualified in case he/she does not appear in both the papers of Civil Services (Prelim) Examination.

Applications are now invited for the Preliminary Examination only. Candidates who are declared by the Commission to have qualified for admission to the Main Examination will have to apply again, in the Detailed Application Form which would be supplied to them. The Main Examination is likely to be held in October/November, 2012.
